Forthcoming publication: Chronicling Themes in the Economic and Social History of Malaysia

The Economic History of Malaysia (EHM) Project is pleased to announce that Chronicling Themes in the Economic and Social History of Malaysia will be published by World Scientific Publishing in the third quarter of 2025. It is expected to be launched at an international seminar to be held in Kuala Lumpur.

The book, edited by Sultan Nazrin Shah, is a compilation of 35 fascinating chapters written by highly distinguished international and national authors, selected from over 50 articles published on the EHM website since its launch almost a decade ago.

The book documents aspects of the country’s economic and social development during British colonial rule to independence in 1957, its post-independence struggles, through to issues and challenges of contemporary relevance. An Introduction, by Sultan Nazrin Shah contextualizes the articles to relevant phases and events in the nation’s history, drawing from his published research.

The book, with striking visuals, is expected to be of interest to a wide audience among those who want to learn about the nation’s captivating past.
